Q. What is the cost of the class?

A. If you are over 21 years old the cost is $230.00 at the Marysville and Woodland sites; $240.00 at the Rocklin site.
If you are under 21 years old the cost is $150.00 at all three locations.

Q. Why is the cost of the course different for those students under 21?

A. The course is required by the State of California for those under 21 wishing to obtain a motorcycle license. Therefore, the California Highway Patrol regulates the fee for this age group.

Q. What do I need for the classroom?

A. If you are under 18 a parent or guardian must accompany you to the classroom session in order to sign the waiver form. You may obtain the waiver in advance and have the signature notarized.

You will need either an automobile drivers license, ( any current license any state), or a DMV learners permit, or your classroom Drivers Education Certificate.

Q. What do I need to ride the motorcycle?

A. You will need a DOT approved helmet, which we will supply if you don't have one.

Some form of eye protection.

Sturdy footwear, that covers the ankle.

Full fingered gloves made of a sturdy material.

A long sleeved shirt or jacket and full length trousers. For your protection all of your clothng should be of a sturdy, durable material.

It may rain, so you may want rain gear. .

Q. What size motorcycles do we use?

A. For The Basic Rider Course we use 125 cc and 250 cc training motorcycles.

A. For the Experienced Rider Course students can use their own motorcycles or one of our training motorcycles.

Q. Can I use my own motorcycle for the Basic Course?

A. Most students prefer to use our motorcycles but you can use your own provided it is less than 350 cc's and in safe riding condition.

If you want to use your motorcycle you will have to provide the current registration and proof of insurance to the instructor.

Scooters are available upon request.
 
Q. Do I have to be a certain height?

A. We have no minimum height requirements, but you must be able to touch the ground with both feet while straddling the motorcycle.

We have motorcycles with low slung seats for people who need to be closer to the ground.

Q. How old do I have to be to take the class?

You have to be 15 1/2 years old and completed classroom Drivers Education.

If under 18 years old a parent or guardian must accompany you to the first classroom session in order to sign a waiver. The signature must be notarized if signed in advance.

Q. How long does it take to complete the course?

A. The Basic Rider Course is a total of 15 hours. 5 hours in the classroom and 10 hours riding.

Woodland and Marysville sites operate on a one weekend format and Rocklin uses a two weekend format. Check with the individual site for a detailed schedule.

Q. Are there any insurance discounts for taking the course ?

A. Most insurances companies offer 5% to 10% for completing either the Basic or the Experienced Rider courses.

Check with your insurance company and compare overall rates.

Also some motorcycle dealers and shops give discounts for completing the course, ask. .

Q. Will I have to go to the DMV for my license after completing the course?

A. Yes, we are a California State sub-contracted motorcycle training facility, recognized by the DMV. Upon completion of Basic Rider Course you will be mailed a DL389 document. When presented to the DMV, the DL389 will waive the riding portion of your motorcycle test only.

The State of California requires successful completion of the state auto and motorcycle written tests. For more information contact the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles.

The DL389 document will be mailed to you within ten working days.

Q. What is the Experienced Rider Course?

A. In the Experienced Rider Course you use your personal motorcycle and you can bring a passenger. This course provides in-depth discussion of specific riding techniques.


Q. What is the Extended Basic Course?

This course is designed for a student who is unable to successfully complete the Basic Rider Course.

It includes more one-to-one instruction since the class is limited to three students.

Q. Can I just take the Extended Basic Course?

A. The majority of students successfully complete the Basic Rider Course.
The Extended Basic Course is only offered to those students who are having difficulty completing the Basic Rider Course.
